Release Notes
If you have a previous version installed, just install
this version to the same location and it will replace any existing
modules with the new versions.
Change in 1.2.3
- a problem was discovered in the handling of some date
formats that would cause the program to abort at startup. This has now
been fixed.
Changes in 1.2.2
- Fix: a problem was discovered with the 'Ping' test.
The program would often give incorrect results by reporting a site as
active when, in fact, it was down. This problem could also sometimes
cause the program to stop.
- New feature: an option has been added to permit the
program to be started via a command line. The command line start can
include a parameter to cause the program to automatically start the
tests. With this feature it is now possible to include the program in
the StartUp program group so that it will be started every time the
computer is restarted. When started from the command line, the program
window is automatically hidden so that it does not interfere with other
programs that may be running.
- New feature: the program has been modified so that it
appears as an icon in the System Tray rather than as an item in the
Task Bar. As the program is intended to be run for extended periods, it
was felt that this change would make it more 'user friendly'.
Fix in 1.2.1
- It was discovered that the program was using too much
CPU time when attempting to connect to a site that was down, or when
waiting for a reponse from a site that was down. It was using 70% to
80% of the time. This has been corrected so that it will use <1%
of the CPU time, usually <1/2%.
Added Functionality in 1.2
- Added code to the HTTP test to report 500 series
error responses as indicating the site is down. This class of code
indicates cases where the server knows it has erred or is incapable of
performing the request. For all practical purposes, it means the server
is "down".
Bug fix in Version 1.1.1
- Fixed a problem in the registered version that would
cause the program to abort at startup..
Bug fixes included in Version 1.1:
- Fixed a problem with adding a new site to the
configuration. In 1.0, the selections to report a site down or up would
be reversed when Ok was clicked.
- Fixed a problem with the "News" button. In 1.0, the
reference used to retrieve the news file was wrong.
The following is a copy of the `readme.txt` file:
Readme.txt for AreYouThere? Version 1.2.3
AreYouThere? is a site monitoring program that can be used for a number of purposes. In addition to notifying you when a site becomes available or unavailable, it can also notify you of when any email messages become available. It can also be used for monitoring a busy Web site to be notified of the response times dropping to a low value; a convenient way of finding out when the site becomes less busy and easier to access.
HTTP test: use for monitoring a Web site, so you can be notified if the site goes down or comes back up.
